Yes thats right we hit £1million in past business! As seen in the EDP…. It was reported at this week’s meeting of the Wensum Chapter of Business Network International (BNI) that a total £1,021,000 of referrals between members had been made in the past 12 months.

The chapter, which has 22 members, was establish more than 10 years ago but director Max Mace, 29, explained it has recently gained fresh impetus.

He said: “The chapter used to make about £500,000 of referrals each year but has really gathered momentum over the last year.

“I think one of the reasons is the quality of the members that we have. “People need to apply to be a member and we make sure we accept people who we think will be of benefit to the chapter.

“I think in this current economic climate achieving this £1m milestone is a fantastic achievement and we want to push on and get our membership up to 40 in the next year.”

The BNI was established in America in 1985 and has more than 150,000 members worldwide.

There are several BNI chapters in Norfolk.

The Wensum Chapter is based in Fakenham and members meet every Wednesday morning at The Limes pub in the town.

Many of the members are from the Fakenham area and some are from other parts of Norfolk.

Only one business from each trade or type of organisation is accepted into the chapter.

Businesses in the Wensum Chapter include a travel agents, a solicitor, a financial advisor, a painter and decorator, a car garage, a letting agent, a financial advisor, a pub and restaurant and a printing firm.

At the weekly meetings members get the opportunity to promote their business. Members do business with one another and also promote each others’ businesses externally and secure referrals.

Secretary treasurer Darren Davies said: “It’s a bit like having 22 sales reps working for you and there is a good sense of trust and reliability between members.

“Encouraging businesses to work together and do business locally is good for the community overall.

“There are several networking groups out there. Ours is a bit more formal and we keep record of the referrals made and follow them up to see that they are finalised.

“The £1m milestone is a great achievement but we believe we will keep expanding from here.”

He added: “I moved to Fakenham from Bournemouth two years ago and didn’t know anyone.

“I joined the Wensum Chapter of the BNI about a year ago and have made great business connections and also friends, so there is a lot more to the chapter than just making money.”
